As annoying and harmful as anti-LGBTQ+ churches and leaders are, at least you know where they are coming from and can make decisions accordingly.

However, it is the bigotry that hides behind the smiles in “welcoming” (not affirming) churches that cause the most damage. They are precisely like the bigoted churches in their beliefs against gay marriage, gender identity, and sexual or romantic relationships between people of the same sex.

For example, ReVoice must get money whenever they say they are “sexual minorities” within the church; they use that descriptor every chance they get to do so. Yet, they toe the line in the harmful and toxic belief systems that empower ex-gay ideology/conversion therapy. The same ideology that destroys people, families, and sometimes even lives. They will say they are gay, lesbian, or Bi…. but still believe that sex between people of the same gender is sinful and will always be sinful because (in their beliefs) marriage is only for one man and one woman for one lifetime and that is the ONLY way a person can have God approved sexual activity.

We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to be enjoyed exclusively within this marriage covenant, and that any inward cultivation or outward expression of sexual desire apart from the one-flesh bond between husband and wife is out of accord with God’s creational intent, and therefore against his good and gracious will.

They are lying to themselves and manipulating the church. They want the church to think they represent a part of the LGBTQ+ community and create a false climate of acceptance. But, in truth, ReVoice is also intolerant of what makes life as an LGBTQ+ person whole and fulfilled.

ReVoice’s theological base is the same as ex-gay ministries of old and new. So there is nothing new to see here except for one thing. Unfortunately, that one thing is their use of cultural appropriation to repackage exgay ministry into an even more incredibly confusing and, therefore, more destructive worldview.

ReVoice cannot legitimately claim to be a sexual minority when its theological foundation is what creates our marginalization, to begin with.
