Is Up Leveling My Editing Super-Powers A Thing?
We are entering the final stretch of editing my memoir, "WHY." It's time to hunker down and PUUUUUUSH through...
My fantastical editor Martina has run through the rest of my memoir with her edits. I have to catch up and accept/modify/create in response to her editing suggestions for the last three chapters and probably the epilogue ….
All due by the end of this weekend… lol.
I say probably the epilogue because she is editing that now.
Then, when all of that is done, another editor on the team will scan the whole book for technical edits like formatting, making sure all the names are changed correctly, timeline, table of contents … all the technical details. And then, I will print off the whole darn thing, get my red pen out and make the absolute final edits. There shouldn’t be many since we will have gone through the manuscript with a fine-tooth comb three times before then.
Once that is done, we will get final cover art and a publishing date.
Woo hooey!
I would love to blame getting behind in my part of the editing process because of the new promotion. While that is definitely part of the reason, I have to admit that I detached after we edited the part of the book concerning Exodus and the whole ex-gay world (the dynamics, scandals, damage, destruction etc.). I needed the space to collect my thoughts and regroup. Editing those chapters was more tough than I expected (again!).
BUT here we are, and I can see the finish line pretty clearly now. Time to hunker down and make this final lap. GO TEAM GO!
