Last Night Is A Huge Win for Dems, But What About My Marriage?
Will the blue wave that swept the country last night melt the Wicked Witch of Bigotry this Friday at the Supreme Court?
Today, though, is a day to revel (not gloat) in the Democratic victories and I am!
They are winning everything…
I was checking my phone late last night, and my eyes just lit up! I told a friend, “The Democrats are really doing it—they’re sweeping the board with HUGE numbers! From Governors to state positions, Prop 50, and even the Mayor of NYC… it’s all happening!”
My friend started crying, like, really hard.
I’m so happy about what happened last night. Honesty and Hope have won!
My biggest worry is that the Democrats might just start spouting talking points instead of learning from this and losing sight of the dangers we’re still facing.
Also, MAGA doesn’t exactly love losing, so we’ll see how that plays out.
But today is definitely a day to celebrate (not just brag) about the Democratic victories, and I’m totally on board!
But will the blue wave of last night melt the Wicked Witch of Bigotry (Kim Davis)?
Hey, just wanted to let you know (in case you didn’t) that the Supreme Court is expected to make a decision this Friday on whether to hear arguments in a case that could basically undo Obergefell vs. Hodges. For those who might not be familiar, that’s the case that made gay marriage legal nationwide in 2015. Kim Davis has become a symbol for those who want to repeal it.
So, if they decide to keep the lower court decisions in place, my marriage is safe for now. But if they decide to hear arguments again, that’s not a good sign, which means they might hear the arguments in March 2026 and potentially overturn gay marriage next June. If they do overturn it, the decision would go back to the states, and Florida has already added to its state constitution that prohibits gay marriage.
The Supreme Court is supposed to be above political pressure, but we all know that the current administration, a fascist who’s trying to act like a President, has stacked the court with really conservative Christians, which doesn’t look good for any marginalized groups or my marriage.
That said, let’s remember Alito (not a fan of gay marriage) said recently:
“In commenting on Obergefell, I am not suggesting that the decision in that case should be overruled…”
It doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t support overturning it later, but it does give me a little glimmer of hope!
After last night, I’m really hoping the Court remembers that they were right to allow gay marriage and decide not to hear the current case (Chiles vs Salazar) that wants to dissolve my marriage. If that were to happen my hope in preserving our Democracy will ignite like a roaring flame.
I will admit, I am tired of all of it, but ignorance is not bliss. Check out Ground News
I have limited my sources of news and commentary, but that said, it becomes too much real quick. My favorite news source is Ground News. It is amazing and shows the main stories of the day from over 60 thousand sources. It pulls what’s being covered, who is covering it (left, center, right), and presents summaries to you. It even has a bias meter that is truly impartial. I just love it.
Ok, that’s it for now. Have a great Wednesday!
