Mugwump Ramblings–Marriage (Yay!), Epstein Files (Finally!), Democrat Leadership (Where?)
Three more reasons to maintain my Mugwump (a real word) status
For those that don’t know, a mugwump according to the googles is:
Definition from Oxford Languages–mug·wump /ˈməɡˌwəmp/ noun– a person who remains aloof or independent, especially from party politics.
“I’ve often depicted her as a mugwump sitting on a fence”
Isn’t It Great I Am Still Married?!
The week started off with a big ‘ol grin. Kim Davis and her “counsel” were sent packing when they went to the Supreme Court in an effort to overturn Obergerfell (legalized gay marriage). From NBC:
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday turned away a long-shot attempt to overturn the landmark 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.
Without comment, the justices rejected an appeal brought by Kim Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky who was sued in 2015 for refusing to issue marriage licenses because of her opposition to same-sex marriage based on her religious beliefs.
So, I was jubilant after hearing the decision. The rest of the world… meh, okay.
I was very worried about the case, and it was a huge relief that the Supreme Court upheld my marriage. I was grinning from ear to ear. When I excitedly told some of my straight-married friends, they smiled, said congratulations, and then acted like they wanted to know if I would go in on a pizza because they were sOOOoooOOO hungry.
hmph… Of course, I am going to go in on a pizza. Why is that even a question? Pizza is my favorite food group.
Then I noticed that the general reaction with straight people was of muted support; people who don’t have to worry about their marriages being destroyed in the eyes of the law.
Now, I am sure plenty of allies were as excited as I was, and I just missed it. The weird muted reaction (to me) didn’t rain on my parade but did reveal a lack of understanding of how important marriage is to some of us.
Ah well. Maybe I am just old-fashioned or overcompensating for my past right-wing activism against recognizing gay marriage.
But, at least Dan can’t get away from me so easily now :)
Trump is in the Epstein files!
Because of course he is. So are hundreds (thousands?) of victims and other predators. Victims that deserve justice and predators that deserve a horribly uncomfortable time in jail for the rest of their lives.
It was also a bit of good news that what was already known to be true was verified as true. The Oldest Brat-Baby King Wannabee is not too happy about seeing his name in print in this context. Resident Clump started threatening Democrats with investigations into how they are in the files as well.
I thought the Chump in Chief had better survival instincts.
Every single person I know all across the political spectrum does not care for child sex predators. Everyone from foreign royalty to Republicans to Democrats and anyone else who are shown to be child sex abusers ALL need to go to jail. If Trump thinks threatening others is going to scare the American people away from digging into and demanding all the Epstein files, he’s so wrong. He’s actually helping our calls for transparency.
I have a feeling the 40 billion he just gave to Argentina was in preparation for when he has to flee the country. Argentina has a reputation of being a Nazi war criminal haven. I am almost convinced that fleeing there is Chump’s retirement plan. It wouldn’t surprise me if we start seeing the Trump family and accomplices taking “vacations” there soon.
Where are the Democrat Party’s leadership?
I dunno. Not here. That’s the only point I wanted to make.
In Conclusion
So, as the week winds down, I’m reminded that progress—whether personal or societal—doesn’t come with trumpets blaring or confetti falling from the sky. Sometimes it’s a quiet Supreme Court ruling that lets love remain lawful, or a crack in the armor of the powerful who thought they were untouchable. Either way, I’ll take the victories, big or small, and keep celebrating them—preferably with a slice (or four) of pizza and the satisfying knowledge that love and truth are still winning, even if the cheers aren’t as loud as I think they should be.
